Answer

My Department has developed a range of preliminary options to improve the Glenavy Road / Station Road / Magheramesk Lane junction, which range in their scope of works, design standards and cost. My Department will continue to develop these proposals, while taking account of the outcome of the current planning application for the new park and ride facility at Moira Station for which my Department is also a statutory consultee.

The planning application for a new park and ride facility involves constructing 489 additional parking spaces north of Moira Station and a new footway connection to the Belfast-bound platform. This is expected to reduce the number of drivers who presently park on Station Road and then walk to Moira Station.

I have asked my officials to assess the feasibility of extending the Station Road footway to Moira Station, taking into consideration future changes in pedestrian movements as a result of the new park and ride facility.

As Station Road is rural in nature it does not meet the requirements for street lighting and therefore I have no plans to install street lighting on this section of road.
