Answer
I can advise that my Department has considered a range of options to provide a right turn lane on the A26 Glenavy Road into Station Road. These include the realignment of Magheramesk Lane and alteration to the Station Road junction to provide right turning pockets into Station Road or to both Magheramesk Lane and Station Road. These different layouts require the purchase of agricultural land and the realignment of public utility equipment. There are also a number of substandard design features, which include a substandard alternative route using the Maghaberry Road.
Due to concerns regarding road safety the scheme has not been progressed, and costs to complete such a scheme would be significant compared with the benefits that would be realised.
My officials will continue to keep this junction layout under review.
