Answer
Road Safety is a high priority for my Department, and we are committed to working proactively to make our roads safer and to address the needs of all road users.
As you will appreciate collisions on the road network are investigated by the PSNI. Once the findings are shared with the Department, my officials will carefully consider if any action can be taken through the introduction of engineering measures to enhance road safety.
Officials are also reviewing the latest Road Traffic Collision data from the PSNI for collision cluster sites, including the Glenavy Road, to identify locations where there is a common pattern of collisions which could benefit from the introduction of effective road safety measures.
The Department is considering options to improve the junction of the A26 Glenavy Road into Station Road, however, at present a viable scheme has not been identified. There are currently no plans to change the junctions with Lisnabella or Maghaberry Road.
